1. About Mongoose Bikes

Mongoose is a brand I remember hearing about all through my teenage years and every boy I knew owned at least one. We would all ride on the pegs they would put on the back of their tires, and we’d have a lot of fun hanging out together.

These bikes originally sold under BMX products before merging with Pacific Cycles. Mongoose always wanted their bikes to be made of high-quality materials and used for BMX biking, trick riding, and for any amount of fun you wanted to have.

When buying a Mongoose bike, you can count on them to deliver on quality and design!

2. Frame and Design

The Mongoose Status has an aluminum frame with a sleek design. The design of the bike has a beautiful color, clean lines, and looks professional.

Putting the bike together proves to be harder than it should with complicated directions.

It’s best to have a pro at a bicycle shop help you so you can be sure to put it together correctly.

3. Features of the Bike

It has a 21-speed Shimano rear derailleur with SRAM shifters that should provide a smooth and easy transition between gear changes. The quality of these parts are not up to the quality control as the rest of the bike, and you should upgrade them as soon as possible.

This full suspension mountain bike offers a comfortable and smooth ride for you to control the bike with ease and simplicity.

The Mongoose Status 2.2 has pull-lever rim breaks and weighs close to 40 lbs. There is no water bottle holder, the seat is very hard and uncomfortable, and the pedals are plastic and will break easily after a few rides.

4. Biking Purposes

This bike is heavy and wouldn’t be ideal for trick riding or cycling where you need to be light and with little resistance. This bike is for mountain biking, but you should avoid terrains where you need to do trick riding or perform a lot of jumping.

Since the bike is heavy, this would not be a good bike for cycling in contests where you need the least amount of resistance as possible. However, if you just want to exercise, ride mountainous terrain, or bike to work, then this bike would fit your needs.

With this bike, you do not want to be hard on the tires by hard jumps and tricks that will be performed on one wheel, since the parts can break because of unintended use.

5. Mongoose Status 2.2 Review

Most people who have this bike are happy with the quality of the bike, how good it looks, and the smooth ride. This bike is beautiful and has a very smooth ride because it is a full suspension.

Some people do not like the initial investment of the bike and then having to turn around and invest in new parts that need to be higher quality, such as the shifters, breaks, and the brake noodle, because they are low quality. Upgrading the pedals are a definite need for me.

Is It Worth the Investment?

There are two sides to this argument. I would have to say yes, that this bike is worth it ultimately. While it does need some work, the original body and essential features make for a beautiful bike with untouched potential.

By upgrading the brakes, seats, shifters, and the pedals you can make this bike your own. It’s not exactly building your bike from scratch, but it is a bike that will have your investments and personal touches.

If you want a bike to make your own without starting from nothing, then this bike is a great investment for you!

What are some features and key points you look for in a bike? What fears do you have about buying a bike online and how do you get around those concerns?
