You want a great bike for a great price. So there are plenty of complex full-suspension mountain bikes out there, most demanding high prices. The Atroz Comp takes a different approach by streamlining its suspension design and saving you some money in the process.
Whenever you are choosing a mountain bike, there are a few things you need to consider. Your height and weight will affect the way you ride your bike, and you should always be comfortable. Looking to tame that tough section of trail? The Diamondback Atroz Comp 27.5″ full suspension mountain bike is just what you need to make quick work of some serious off-road conditions. You should also have experience when using this kind of mountain bike. It’s not for entry-level riders to just take out on rough terrain.
Of all the bikes Diamondback makes, the Atroz is worth a closer look. The main features of the Diamondback Atroz Comp Mountain Bike are the hydraulic brakes, the suspension system, and the frame. The features together make the bike work in rugged terrains and on rough rides.
The Atroz Comp’s foundation is a super-strong 6061-T6 aluminum frame that sports 4″ of rear travel courtesy of the RockShox Monarch R air rear shock. The hand built frame provides a strong and durable bike that will keep you happy for a long time. The aluminum alloy frame is simple, lightweight, and plenty durable so you can enjoy the ride with the peace of mind that it’s built to last.
The frame will resist rust, ride well in inclement weather, and resist warping damage when riding over bumps or dips. This frame is made to be strong and resist frame damage.
Up front there’s a RockShox XC 32 with 120mm of travel, TurnKey lock-out, and a 15mm thru-axle to smooth out the ruts and provide superb control. It makes for an amazing and smooth riding experience customized to your riding style.
Additionally, the frame’s elevated chain stays mean you don’t have to listen to a bunch of chain slap as you’re riding through the rough stuff.
This frame is 16”, which will fit heights between 5’4” and 5’7”. If you are taller than that, we recommend considering a larger frame for your bike, and for a smaller frame if you are shorter. You want to be able to stand and sit comfortably on the bike.
The Atroz Comp sports a 1×10-speed drivetrain that ensures shifting is a simple and precise proposition. There’s a SRAM X5 10-speed shifter mated with a SRAM X7 rear derailleur and SRAM PG1030 11-36T cassette for super smooth gear changing. Add in a Race Face Ride crankset with a 30T Narrow Wide single chainring and you’ve got exemplary chain retention plus a wide range of gears to tackle any terrain. And for extra insurance on gnarly descents, the full chain guide with roller ensures the chain remains perfectly in place. It is durable and reliable so you can focus on what matters most – the ride ahead.
Suspension and brakes
The high chainstay design delivers 120mm of suspension travel that eliminates chain slap as you’re riding through the rough stuff, with a RockShox Recon fork soaking up the bumps out front. Outfitted with hydraulic brakes and a 142×12mm thru-axle, you’re looking at a very capable trail bike.
The RockShox Monarch R is an air suspension system that works well and provides a smooth ride on rough terrain and through dips and bumps. However, this system has been known to leak, so you should keep your eye on it and take it to a bike shop if you are having trouble.
The optimized single pivot with sealed cartridge bearings provides smooth, durable performance. This allows the rider to have control over their ride, comfort level, and the smoothness of their ride.
Tektro Gemini hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm front / 160mm rear rotors deliver plenty of stopping power in all conditions. They give you dependable stopping power for confident handling in any terrain.
But you will need to be careful when using these brakes. When braking hard, they have the power to lock the back wheel and toss you over the bars.
The 27.5 inch wheels roll well over obstacles and offer quick handling. They have Kenda Nevegal Lite 27.5×2.35″ tires that serve up an aggressive, all-around tread pattern for incredible bite. These are great-performing tires for all conditions, whether loose or hard pack.
With this bike, you’ve got incredibly reliable SL7 aluminum double wall rims, 32-hole SL7 aluminum hubs, plus tried and true 14g spokes laced in a 3x pattern that roll smooth all day long.
Although the company produced the bike with basic components, that does not mean that it lacks durability. Just the opposite, in fact, thanks to the strong and reliable aluminum frame. Although the material is lightweight, it is strong enough to withstand the most adverse conditions.
The aluminum frame supports you on the roughest or rides with a lasting strength and durability that you would want and need from a mountain bike.
In truth, a mountain bike takes a lot of abuse; far more than a street bike or even a trick bike. Therefore, you need a mountain bike that provides durability.
The Diamondback Atroz Comp is a Ready Ride bike. Ready Ride bikes are shipped 95 percent assembled. Typical bike assembly is time consuming and requires technical knowhow. Ready Ride reduces the time and skills needed for the final, four-step assembly.
So your new Diamondback will arrive partially assembled. You’ll get the chance to use a little elbow grease and learn how your new bike works without having to start from the ground up. Still, we understand that building a bike is a process. Assembly times vary with experience.
You’ll be riding in anywhere from 30 (skilled bike mechanic) to 120 minutes (no prior experience building bikes). If you’re not comfortable assembling your bike for any reason, please take it to your local bike shop for assistance.
